Tick, Tick, Tick . . .

Do you have a clock or watch available with a secondhand on it? Stop and follow that hand as it ticks away 1 minute. Those seconds, of course, are the way we measure time, and time is the very essence of our lives. By the time you reach the age of 75, the clocks and watches of this world will have ticked away a total of nearly 2.5 billion seconds.

Don't Forget!

You would think the people of ancient Israel would never forget God. Not only had God brought them through the Red Sea, but each day in the wilderness He fed them with manna. He saw to it that their clothes didn't wear out. And He brought them into a land filled with lavish resources.

Appeal Of The Forbidden

The story is told about a young boy who was being cared for by a nanny. He saw a beautiful vase in the china cabinet, and he wanted it. When he was refused, he began screaming, kicking, and crying. His mother, hearing the fuss, came into the room to find out what the problem was.

Let Right Be Done

An engaging family film, The Winslow Boy, tells the story of a 13-year-old who is accused of stealing and is expelled from a British military school. The father believes his son is innocent and marshals all his resources to defend him. As the case attracts public attention, many people rally behind the boy with the slogan "Let right be done."

The Trouble With Helping

The man got in trouble for helping someone. He had been raised in a rural area, so he was in the habit of stopping to assist troubled motorists. But when he stopped in a large city to offer help to someone who was stranded, he was shot, robbed, and left for dead. The story has a happy ending, though. The man recovered from his injuries, and he says he has gained a deeper confidence in God. He still believes that helping others is the right thing to do.

No Explanation Required

A Christian who believed God had led him to take a daring step of faith remarked, "If God doesn't give me success in this matter, He'll certainly have a lot of explaining to do!"

Revelation Or Imagination?

Today I received a long letter from a man who says he believes in both God and the "Christ spirit," but not in "the historical Jesus as portrayed in the New Testament." He doesn't mind that I believe as I do, but he wants me to show respect for him by acknowledging that our beliefs are of equal merit. That I cannot do!

Keeping Away The Elephants

A man was sitting on a park bench shredding old newspapers and spreading them around. "What are you doing?" asked a bystander. "I'm spreading this paper around to keep the elephants away." The visitor looked around the well-kept city park. "I don't see any elephants," he said. The man smiled. "Works pretty good, doesn't it," he replied.

Look Back Or Ahead?

The great American baseball player Satchel Paige once said in jest, "Don't look back—something may be gaining on you." In contrast, George Santayana, a Spanish thinker and writer, noted in 1905, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
